School Highlights

Rolling Acres Edison is proud to be the recipient of the “Five-Star Achievement Award” for two consecutive years. This recognition is bestowed upon Edison schools across the country that has shown continual and sustained academic growth.  We contribute our academic success to a well-defined technology program, best teaching practices, involved parents, and  an education design that focuses on the whole child.

We are very fortunate to have a monthly benchmarking system which is aligned to the Illinois Learning Standards.  The “Benchmarks” are  tools to assist teachers and students.  Teachers use the information from the “Benchmarks” to gauge learning and assess students’ strengths and weaknesses in the areas of reading, math, and language arts.  Students are able to view a snapshot of their progress by charting their scores monthly.

Teachers have numerous ways in which they communicate to parents.  There are telephones in every classroom, equipped with voice mail.  Each teacher’s e-mail address has been sent to parents via monthly newsletter.  Homework can be easily assessed on Schoolnotes.com.  Teachers update the site weekly so parents are informed of their classroom activities.

Mission

Our mission at Rolling Acres Edison Junior Academy is to provide its students with the academic and social skills required to communicate, contribute to, and live cooperatively within a diverse community by encouraging learning as a life-long process, fostering creativity, and embracing technology and the arts.

History

Rolling Acres Edison Junior Academy became a member of the Edison Schools’ family in the fall of 2001.  We are located in the heart of Rolling Acres Subdivision at 5617 N. Merrimac Drive.  The student population at Rolling Acres Edison is a diverse student population both culturally and academically.  Students residing north of Forrest Hill Avenue and students residing within the immediate Rolling Acres Edison’s neighborhood may attend the school.

Learning happens every day at Rolling Acres Edison. We feel that certain distracters can prevent the quality of learning that is expected in our school environment. Student dress, in many cases, hinders a student’s ability to focus fully on academics. Viewing these factors, a unified dress code has been established at our school.  Our dress code expectations are listed below.
